It was only a matter of weeks ago since we last got out a taste of The Grand Tour with the trios brand new special, A Massive Hunt, streaming on Amazon Prime late last year. Since joining Amazon the trinity have also explored their own solo projects with James May of exploring Japan and destroying an old ladies kitchen, Jeremy trying to run a fam, it’s time for The Hamster to give it a go.
Richard Hammond will star in his first solo Amazon project, The Great Escapists, alongside MythBusters legend, Tory Belleci in this brand-new series that fuses pop science and factual entertainment together perfectly.
From the exciting trailer, the series looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and has come at just the right time for everyone here in the UK at least. The series is definitely going to bring back a lot of nostalgic feels for kids of the late 90s, early 2000’s as it seems to be borrowing elements from one of Richard Hammonds most popular shows, Brainiac.
But what is the series going to be about?
Whilst on a relaxing fishing adventure, Richard and Tory venture into deep waters, just as the story of the century closes in. The two of them are blown miles off course and crash land on a deserted island. With the boat beyond repair, Richard and Tory quickly realise that the boast components could become key to their survival and ultimate escape.
Over the course of six weeks, we will get to see Richard and Tory conflict over their plans to either escape or make their lives more fun and comfortable on the desert island.
Who is Tory Belleci?
If you’ve tuned into the Discovery channel anytime in the last fifteen years, then there is a good chance that at some point or another you will have come across the series, MythBusters. A show where Hollywood special effects experts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman investigate and attempt to debunk rumours, urban legends and popular myths.
Tory Belleci was a co-host on the show alongside Kari Byron and the late Grant Imahara. After their success on MythBusters, the presents moved across to Netflix for their show, The White Rabbit Project. Tory himself has previously worked with ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) on films including Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
When will the series air?
The Great Escapists launches 29 January on Prime Video and will run for six weeks. This means that episode will air weekly every Friday in the same fashion as The Grand Tour had done with its three-season run.
