The Office REBOOT! Who Will Return From The Original Show?

OH, MY GOD! Okay, it’s happening! Everybody stay calm. Stay calm. STAY FUCKING CALM! EVERYBODY JUST FUCKING CALM DOWN! The Office (US) after only six years off the air is being rebooted for the NBC streaming service, Peacock.

In a previous post, I wrote about what the staff of Dunder Mifflin would be doing now and who would still be working at the famous paper company. But what would the new show be about, who would be in it and who started the fire?

It makes sense for at least one big player from the original series to still be working at Dunder Mifflin. This would me Andy, Dwight, Michael or Jim could return to the show. Steve Carell who played David Brent’s American doppelganger, Michael Scott, is probably not going to return to the show. He left halfway through the shows seventh season and made a small cameo in the final episode where Dwight married Angela and become manager of Dunder Mifflin after years of waiting. The Michael Scott cameo almost never happened as Carell wasn’t to keen on returning to the character.

Dwight however could have a strong chance of returning to the show as manager of Dunder Mifflin when the show returns. He was a strong fan favourite who started in every episode of the show and would be the link between the original series and the reboot. The same can be said for Andy “the nard dog” Bernard. The character was pretty much trashed in the last two seasons to become a replacement for Carell and fans where disappointed. He was hardly in the series due to filming The Hangover Part 3. Bringing him back to work in sales again would be a delight for fans to see.

Kevin Malone cannot change. He is at the same desk in the same chair eating another jar on M&Ms and now and again saying his classic one liner that will still please fans today. Kevin can’t be alone; Oscar and Angela are still there helping him out because they both can’t leave him alone. Oscar is happily married to his husband who he has a child with. Angela loves his new child but hates that he is being raised by two gay men and tries her best to become the baby’s mother.

Meredith is more let loose than ever. He son is grown up and doing his own thing. She doesn’t care anymore about him and is just living for the sake of having fun. She goes to work to have something to do between the nights when she’s out partying and drinking.

Lovely, but complicated Kelly is back at Dunder Mifflin. After failing to love Ryan, again, she comes back to her old job to act as if she never knew him and pick up where she left off in 2005 before Michael ever hired his man-crush temp, Ryan Howard.

Erin is still working at reception and was brought back by Dwight. Dwight originally wanted Pam to come back to Dunder Mifflin but her and Jim are doing their own thing now. More to come on that later.

Dwight secretly always respected Toby but had to bring him down because he wanted to impress Michael. Overtime Dwight realises that Toby is as dull as Michael made him out to be and grows to hate him just as much as his old friend did. Paul Lieberstein was also a writer on the original show along with Mindy Kaling and B.J Novak. If the three of them returned as a writer on the show there is also a good chance their supporting character would return as well.

Darryl moved from the Warehouse to the office and landed himself a nice desk in his own office. He later left Dunder Mifflin and when we last saw him, he was V.P of his own sports brand. So, what is he doing now? It would be strange for another office worker to come back to their old job after six years. Maybe Dunder Mifflin is working alongside Athleap as their official paper supplier.

Jim and Pam were still working at Dunder Mifflin when we left them but I think all fans want them to have moved on and done their things. Pam is now a freelance artist who’s booked up all year and Jim is working at a new business as an assistant manager wanting the management job. He is the new Dwight. But we don’t see much of them. Maybe the odd episode we check up on them but the show is no longer about them. Sorry.

Or could Jim have gotten a promotion as is working alongside Dwight, running Dunder Mifflin. Actor John Krasinski has always said he wants to know what ever happened to Jim so this could be the perfect time to find out.
